VE Day – or ‘Victory in Europe Day’ – marks the day towards the end of World War Two (WW2) when fighting against Nazi Germany in Europe came to an end. On 8 May 1945, Prime Minister Winston Churchill made an announcement on the radio at 3pm that the war in Europe had come to an end, following Germany’s surrender the day before.
Friday 8th May is a Bank Holiday was due to be a day of national celebration…and then course Coronavirus happened. But we in Churchdown won’t let that stop us! Although we cannot get together, we will still celebrate together – and we really must make sure we do not gather together. There are things happening all day to help us come together even if we have to do it remotely.
Two minutes silence; a Church Service; a home-based street party; community quiz; raising a glass together; and maybe even a singalong.
