Person killed after being hit by train

A person has been hit and killed by a train in Gloucestershire overnight.

British Transport Police say their officers were alerted to the accident in Churchdown late last night.

Emergency services attended the scene and trains were halted between Gloucester and Cheltenham Spa for around seven hours.

British Transport Police tweeted earlier this morning that trains are running normally between the two stations but warned it might take time for the backlog to filter through.

BTP tweeted: “Trains are now able to run normally between Gloucester and Cheltenham Spa following disruption due to a person who had been hit by a train.

A statement from BTP confirmed it was a fatality. (http://media.btp.police.uk/r/14794/person_struck_by_train___churchdown__gloucester)

“The call came into police at 10.45pm on Friday, 3 November.

“Officers attended alongside paramedics. Sadly the person was pronounced dead at the scene.
