Work begins on new Churchdown surgery
Work on a new GP surgery which will serve up to 20,000 patients has started in Churchdown.
The NHS expect the new development being built in Parton Road will significantly improve access to GP services in the area.
The new building, which will take around 12 months to complete, will be built to modern, comfortable, state-of-the-art specifications and will include additional consulting rooms as well as nurse treatment areas. There will also be new facilities for reception and administration staff.
With further housing planned for the area, it is anticipated that the surgery’s total number of patients is likely to rise over the next few years.
Dr Jeremy Halliday, GP Partner at the current Churchdown Surgery, said: “We are delighted and really excited that our plans for a new, contemporary surgery are finally underway.
“Our current surgery is now 50 years old and no longer meets modern healthcare standards and with several new housing developments anticipated and a growing population, we desperately need new premises to ensure we can continue to provide high quality services for years to come.
“We have put a lot of thought into creating both an attractive building and surrounding environment, and hope that delightful landscaping and increased car parking will make this an attractive location for both patients and staff.
“Our ambition is to retain the welcoming and friendly environment of our current practice in spacious, modern premises, and we look forward to welcoming all our patients, both old and new.”
The new building will offer better facilities for all patients, including people with disabilities, older people, and young families, thanks to the inclusion of lifts for those who are unable to use stairs.
The development also includes training and meeting rooms, which will facilitate education and shared learning whilst allowing other health and social care professionals and specialists to provide services for the local people.
Work is already underway, and it is anticipated that subject to the construction schedule, the building will be available for use from spring 2018.Helen Goodey, director of primary care at NHS Gloucestershire Clinical Commissioning Group, said:
“This development is really positive for Churchdown, and we are delighted that patients and staff will be able to benefit from facilities that are fit for modern healthcare.
“The new surgery promises to be an attractive work environment for GPs and other members of the practice team.
