Elderly couple trapped in car overnight after crashing on A46

An elderly couple were trapped in their overturned car overnight after coming off the road.

Police were called at 10.10am today after a driver saw an overturned car on the A46 near Prinknash Abbey towards Cranham.

When police arrived at the scene they found a car, a silver Honda Jazz, which had left the road and overturned onto its side and landed in a ditch.

The car was not visible from the road. The fire and ambulance services were called and two people were rescued from the car.

They had crashed into land belonging to a dairy farmer, whose cows came to investigate

They are an elderly man, 87, and woman, 78, from Churchdown.

They have both been taken to Gloucestershire Royal Hospital to be checked over.

Police said: “We understand from the driver that their car left the road at 8pm last night and the couple have been trapped in the vehicle overnight.

“It was extremely lucky that the couple were not seriously injured at the time of the incident and that their car was spotted this morning by a driver of a high sided vehicle who called the police.
