Police closed a two-mile stretch of the A40 in both directions near Gloucester after a concern for welfare incident today.
Both sides of the northern bypass were blocked by police vehicles between the Elmbridge Court and Longford roundabouts.
Gloucestershire police said Innsworth Lane and surrounding roads were also closed as emergency services dealt with the incident which has since been resolved.
The road reopened at around 14:20 after an initial westbound closure from around 10.30. A police spokesman said the individual concerned was now getting the help they needed.
A spokesman for South Western Ambulance Service said: “We were called at 10:32am and have attended with HART (hazardous area response team), an operations officer and an ambulance.”

Motorists had to find alternative routes to get into or out of the city as the incident continued. There were delays and congestion spreading to the the A38 and the northbound M5 near the junction with the A40 Golden Valley Bypass.
