Churchdown Tennis Club 2017 Report

The Churchdown Tennis club has had a successful 2017 Gloucestershire Summer League campaign (Men’s Doubles).

This has built on several strong recent seasons after a period of time when the club had declined and didn’t field a league team.

During the 80’s and 90’s Churchdown were a force to be reckoned with in the Gloucestershire Men’s Tennis League but sadly due to a lack of available players they withdrew from the League in the early 2000’s.

But Churchdown are now back in the League and making their way upwards!

Mark Denslow and Steve Pullen started the ball rolling in 2009 with Steve captaining the team for the next 5 years to 2014.

Mike Barwick took over in 2015 and then handed the captaincy to Mike Speke who is the present Club Captain.

This year a B team were entered with Mike Hughes as the captain.

The  A team having been promoted last year finished third in Div 4A and the newly formed B team finished second in 6A and should be promoted.

Churchdown have always played on the courts behind the Churchdown Club in Church Road. It has over 70 male and female members.

There are morning mixed sessions on Sundays, Tuesdays and Thursdays starting at 10am and the Men’s sessions on Tuesdays at 6pm.

New players are very welcome with younger players particularly welcome as we are hoping to start a junior section in the next year.
We would also like to have a ladies league team.

Membership is great value.  Adult annual membership is only £50 and once paid the courts are then free to use throughout the year.
