An invitation to Churchdown Male Voice Choir

Finally, after well over 50 years, Churchdown Male Voice Choir, formed in 1965, was asked to take part in the Three Choirs Festival when it came to Gloucester this summer. The invitation didn’t leave the men much time to reply, but the decision was taken swiftly and a running order of songs hastily agreed. The performance was outside the cathedral in the immediate precincts where an awning had been put up over a raised circular stone platform. On a sunny, but very windy, Sunday afternoon we drew a good crowd for our sixty-minute slot. Some told us they preferred listening to our harmonies rather than stay in the cathedral to hear a rehearsal for that evening’s choral concert.

Our next big event is the annual tour, which this year takes over 90 singers and supporters in two coaches to Cornwall. Concerts have been arranged in Penzance, Falmouth and at the open air Minack Theatre, weather permitting, with its dramatic location right on the sea near Porthcurno.

This year ends like any other with our very popular Christmas extravaganza on three nights from Monday 16 to Wednesday 18 December. It is the only way we can accommodate all those wishing to celebrate the festive season with us in our base at the Churchdown Community Centre, Parton Road. As usual tickets will be available from Colin Acton on 01452 714360, and include refreshments served by the choir members.

If any men reading this feel they would like a slice of the action then do come along to the Community Centre on Monday evenings from 19:30. We are always recruiting, and can guarantee a warm welcome to anyone wanting to give our style of singing a try.
